In commercial three-wheeler operations, a driver rarely receives a return hire immediately. On average, traveling 100 km with passengers requires 50 km of empty running (deadheading, waiting at ranks, returning to stands).
A daily baseline wage of Rs. 3,000 is amortized over the 150 km daily cycle (Rs. 20.00/km). The separate profit margin covers risk, unexpected repairs, inflation, and seasonal fluctuations.
Every 3,000 km requires oil changes, filter cleaning, body washes, and cable lubrication. Three tires (35,000 km life @ Rs. 5,500 each) and regular battery replacement reserves are factored in.
A new Tuk-Tuk replacement cost (Rs. 1.8M) depreciates over a 12-year lifespan (540,000 km total). Capital interest is accounted for at 10% annual rate (Rs. 180,000/yr), equating to Rs. 4.00/km.
